Great Barrington Fire Station - Great Barrington, MA

Great Barrington’s new Fire Station was completed in November of 2009. The building form symbolizes the speed and efficiency demanded of a regional emergency response facility.

The building’s enclosure system is composed of insulated precast panels, insulated metal panels and insulated translucent panels. Opaque materials have been articulated and separate firefighting functions from public and civic areas. Translucent materials create light filled spaces that (along with occupancy sensors) dramatically reduce the use of electrical lighting. A 10 Kw photovoltaic array located on the roof powers a portion of the building’s electrical needs.

The nine month construction administration period ran concurrent with the Beacon Cinema and change orders amounted to less than 1%.
